Rainy Days
Scenic and full of charm, Hawes is our nearest market town, sells pretty much everything and makes for a pleasurable shopping experience. Lots of pubs (we recommend the White Hart and The Crown) and restaurants, Hawes Countryside Museum and galleries – a great day trip.
Situated in the picturesque town of Hawes, the only famous Whensleydale cheese to be hand crafted in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. See cheese making in action, free tasters of all the cheeses, great shop and café.
An original water powered saw mill, lovingly restored to its former glory, now runs as it would of 200 years ago. Tours and workshops make for a great day out for all ages. Tickets need to be obtained from Hawes Countryside Museum.
Sharing the fascinating story of the landscape and the people who have lived, worked and shaped it. Short courses and talks run weekly throughout most of the year.
Situated near Skipton in a beautiful riverside setting, the ruins of Bolton Abbey are a stunning sight to behold. Take in the sights of the Abbey and wander the woodland and riverside paths.
Founded in 1009, this is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the country and well worth a visit.
